SSD Assistants is a team of virtual writers and office staff for Social Security Disability representatives, as well as for personal injury, workers comp and med mal attorneys. We assist by writing quality pre-hearing memos, medical record summaries and transcriptions.

Meet The Team:
Desiree’ L. Sims, BA, Owner and Chief Operator
Desiree’ established her first business (a cleaning company) while attending college at the University of South Florida (Go Bulls!). At that time she was also worked in warehouse and logistics at UPS; where she was promoted to management and excelled in opportunities for 8 years.
After completing her college education, she entered into the Social Security Disability field; first starting out as a case manager in a national firm and working her way up to department supervisor in less than 2 years. She then branched out and began working for a variety of Social Security Disability attorneys and representatives, and a few years later, put her entrepreneurial skills to full use to start her own business, SSD Assistants.
She has grown the business to service Social Security Disability Representatives across the nation as well as Workers Comp, Personal Injury and Medical Malpractice attorneys.
When not working to maintain and grow this business, Desiree’ enjoys gardening, cooking, traveling and spending time with her family. She has a heart for helping those in need, is an avid gardener and foodie and loves the outdoors.
Sachin Nath, Lead, Medical Records Summary Team
Sachin has a Bachelors in Commerce from Bombay University and has worked in the marketing, medical transcription and IT arenas; all of where he was promoted to supervisory positions. He has successfully begun two start up companies and is now the sole lead of the SSD Assistants medical summary department. He is also managing partner for www.painassist.com. Sachin began his work in the medical transcription field in 1999 and as a self taught and motivated individual, earned his way to production manager of a leading outsourcing firm, where he managed several operations of 30-50 employees. He enjoys traveling and spending time with his wife and two sons.
Tom Cefalo, Writer
Tom has over 40 years experience in long term disability and Social Security disability. He holds a B.S. in Business and a J.D. Tom began his career as a claims investigator for Aetna Life Insurance Company and, later, in disability claims management at Unum Life Insurance Company, including 12 years managing a Social Security claimant advocacy program. After receiving his law degree, he independently represented clients at SSA Administrative Law Judge hearings, and later, for law firms specializing in Social Security disability appeals.
Since 2007 he has been performing various consulting services to lawyers/law firms and insurance carriers consisting of writing SS case summaries and briefs, analyzing disability claimant potential for SS, pension, and other benefits, and counseling the legal department. Having lived in Atlanta previously, Tom relocated to Atlanta in 2013 after 25 years in Los Angeles.
Alexis Hummel began working in Social Security Disability in 2013 as a Writer for a well known advocacy firm. She holds a B.S. in History and a Master’s in Criminal Justice, where she discovered a love for the intricacies of the law. Passions include painting and photography and she is a member of her local Art Guild as well as a commissioned artist. She resides in Georgia with her daughter and her rescued furry family members.
Tatsha Edwards, Writer
Tatsha Edwards began her career as a case worker for one of the largest Social Security firms in the US. She worked her way up to a writer and ultimately to a Non-Attorney Representative. She has practiced Social Security Law for over 13 years, has represented over 3000 claimants and finally began her own disability firm in 2019. Tatsha holds a bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice with an emphasis on Forensic Science. Outside of work, she enjoys spending time with her 3 young sons, going for walks, watching movies, learning new things and reading.
